OK, Where Am I?
No, I haven't abandoned my anointed task of giving shit to the KPTV "news" team. Monday night is my designated night for watching reality-based programming (wrestling), as opposed to KPTV's 10 o'clock "news" show.
That explains Monday night; what about tonight? Well, a little after 8 PM, just after I woke up from my nap (hey, news criticism is hard work), the police scanner started talking about a tsunami alert. Since we live at the coast (less than a mile from the ocean), this is Stuff To Take Seriously.
My wife, her sister and I had to pack some cats into carriers, grab some essential stuff and get out of Dodge ASAP. We got to higher ground inland and holed up until the "All Clear" sounded. Then we went back home and unpacked everything. That took us up to just about 10. I wasn't set up to take notes on the "news" show (we hadn't even eaten dinner yet) so I had to just watch the thing tonight. How do you people do it??
In the interest of fairness, I have to say that KPTV actually didn't do a horrible job covering the tsunami scare, as they called it. It was after the fact, of course, but that isn't their fault. I assume they would have interrupted regular programming if the you-know-what had hit the fan. They had to pre-empt their usual fare of "home invasions," panty thieves and meth busts for actual news, but they did and that's to their credit.
Oh, speaking of bad sources for vital information, I'm really pissed at the Weather Channel. As we were getting ready for evacuation, I made sure to put my Sirius satellite radio into the car so I would be sure to have the Weather Channel handy. I put on the Weather Channel's West station, only to hear absolutely nothing about the potential tsunami that could be bearing down on the West Coast. I heard a lot about clouds over Albuquerque, but nada about the tsunami. When I know more than the Weather Channel is telling me about a potentially disastrous weather event, that ain't good. I'm about to go bitch them out.
So that was my night. How was yours? I'll be back tomorrow with more dissection of what passes for "news" on KPTV on a (presumably) typical night Buh-bye.
